Blogtober 2024 : Day 22
In today’s news, the latest on the Highland cow …
Ha! I bet I got you for just a minute there … but breathe easy, there is no Highland cow coming to live in our garden. I’ve got quite enough on my plate with one daft dog, two daft cats and three daft ducks so I am going to quit whilst I’m ahead and say No More Rescue Livestock in the garden!
Today, I am going for the eclectic Five Random Photos post because I can’t see how else I’m going to link these five photos from my camera roll together! 🙂
1 My new coaster
Not so small daughter persuaded me to buy this when we saw it in a shop over the summer. It had been a family joke during the week that I don’t function very well without a brew in the morning, and a particular grumpy incident during a day out had proved the point! So, a cup of tea will cure your insanity!
2 Echinops ritro seed heads
The Echinops ritro, purple spiky flowers beloved by the bees over the summer is now brown spiky seed heads and as pretty as they are, I do need to cut them down otherwise I will have more young plants than I can shake a stick at. I think every gardener has at least a few plants that seed themselves prolifically around the garden and this is one of mine. It’s very lovely – but it’s also very big so I have to contain its enthusiasm to spread itself around!
3 Geranium flowers
We used to have this variety of hardy geranium in the garden when I was growing up, and my Mum always used to call it a “Lancashire Rose”. I’ve Googled it and the only Lancashire roses I can find are actual roses, not geraniums, so I don’t know why she used to call it that, but I still love the colour 🙂
4 A giant mushroom
I’m pretty certain this is a mushroom, it looks like a giant version of the ones I have in the fridge at the moment, but I have no intention of eating it. I read online the other day that finding a mushroom is supposed to be good luck, but I’ve Googled that too and it looks like the fairy mushrooms (fly agaric, the red ones with white spots) are the lucky ones … but I’m happy to take good luck whenever it’s offered so I will say this mushroom is definitely good luck in our garden! 🙂
5 Starlink satellites
Can you see them? A line of lights amongst the other stars, regularly spaced out and heading towards the top left of the photo. The Starlink satellites are part of Space X, Elon Musk’s empire, and create a broadband network in space. There are currently over 7,000 satellites in the constellation, as it’s called, and you can see them on this map if you want to have a look at them encircling the world. I’ve seen them just once before, high up in the sky, but never this low down. I was on my way to get a pint of milk with the dog and as I looked up, there they were. I watched them for a while and the strangest thing is that as they moved higher they just disappeared, one after the other, as if the sky was swallowing them up. Apparently that’s something to do with them reaching altitude and then you can’t see them, but it was very odd to see.
Ah, Blogtober, season of the rambly posts! See you tomorrow! xx
